About the Role
Limelight People are seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse to join a highly skilled operating theatre team in Sydney, specialising in cardiothoracic surgery.
In this role, you will work as a Scrub / Scout Nurse supporting a range of complex cardiac and thoracic procedures. You will be part of a multidisciplinary theatre team working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical outcomes. This position requires strong perioperative experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to perform effectively in high-pressure environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide scrub and/or scout nursing support for cardiothoracic surgical procedures
- Assist with preparation of theatre, instruments, and sterile equipment
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection control standards
- Anticipate surgeon needs during complex cardiac and thoracic operations
- Monitor patient safety throughout the perioperative journey
- Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff
- Ensure accurate documentation of intraoperative care and instrumentation
- Assist with patient positioning and safe transfer pre- and post-surgery
- Participate in theatre coordination and workflow efficiency
- Support junior staff and students within the theatre environment
- Contribute to ongoing training, education, and quality improvement initiatives

Requirements
- Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
- Experience in perioperative, scrub/scout, or theatre nursing
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure surgical environments
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong attention to detail and patient safety focus
Additional Requirements
- Compliance with staff health screening and immunisation policies (including required vaccinations)
- Commitment to workplace safety, professional conduct, and hospital policies
Desirable
- Experience in cardiothoracic, cardiac, or vascular theatre
- Postgraduate qualification in perioperative nursing
- Experience with complex cardiac surgical cases (e.g., CABG, valve surgery)
- Experience mentoring junior theatre staff or students
- Involvement in theatre quality improvement initiatives
